Stephen Rose KC, for the defence, asked the girl, who gave evidence in court, whether she had had any issues with the boy. She said she had not.
She wiped tears from her eyes and asked for a break during her evidence.
Another female pupil at the school, who witnessed the attack, said in a video-recorded police interview that the boy “came up behind [the girl] and just stabbed her in the back near her shoulder”.
She said she “didn’t think he realised I was there until after he did it” and that she ran off and told a teacher.
Asked at what point she had first seen the knife, she said “as he raised it”.
The court has already been told that the defendant had written notes saying he hated women.
One note, which prosecutors said was found by police pinned to the wall of his bedroom, said: “My barren world.. Hello. To all readers out there in the UK and perhaps even the world. If you’re reading this, I am either dead or in custody.
“I imagine the police will be the first to read this and seize it as evidence, so I will make something very clear. I made this decision to do so on my own.”
Another note read: “Am I evil for that? Probably. Am I an incel? A misogynist?. No. I just have good judgement.”
Christopher Paxton KC, in opening the prosecution case, said: “We the prosecution say his intention is made plain not just by those moments of the stabbing, but made plain by his notes and his obsession with killing and being fuelled by hatred.”
The trial continues.
