The domestic market witnessed a strong rally today, with the BSE Sensex surging over 660 points to 83,200 mark and the Nifty 50 climbing above 25,500. This upward momentum was driven by a confluence of domestic and global factors. Investor sentiment was buoyed by expectations of a potential interest rate cut by the US Fed Reserve and optimism over India-US trade talks.
The benchmark indices traded near day’s high. Sensex traded 640.10 points or 0.77 per cent higher at 83,245.53 at 1.13 pm and Nifty 50 climbed 197.10 points or 0.78 per cent to 25,520.65.
The midcap index traded with modest gains of 0.52 per cent, while smallcap index rose by 0.21 per cent. On the sectoral front, all indices except PSU Bank and pharma traded in the positive territory. Realty, consumer durables, FMCG, Auto and private bank indices increased 1-2 per cent.
Top gainers & losers intraday
Shares of Nestle India, Titan, Kotak Mahindra Bank, M&M and Tata Motors led the gainers of Nifty 50, while HDFC Life, Shriram Finance, Infosys, Sun Pharma and TCS depreciated the most.
The private bank index surge follows Axis Bank’s Q2 results. The stock rose nearly 4 per cent in early trade today.
The market showed strong activity with a total of 3,062 stocks traded on the National Stock Exchange at the time of writing, of which 1,777 stocks advanced, 1,179 declined, and 106 remained unchanged.
Canara Bank, Indian Bank, BoM, HDFC AMC hit 52-week high
The market saw 72 stocks reaching their 52-week highs, including Bajaj Finance, HDFC AMC, Eternal, Canara Bank, Indian Bank and Bank of Maharashtra, while 50 stocks hit their 52-week lows. Additionally, 67 stocks were in the upper circuit, reflecting significant buying momentum, whereas 38 stocks were in the lower circuit, indicating substantial selling pressure.
Overall, the statistics suggest a bullish sentiment prevailing in the market, supported by widespread gains across a large number of stocks.
Under the midcap segment, Oberoi Realty, BSE, Godrej Properties, Swiggy and Bharti Hexacom surged 3-5 per cent, while KEI Industries, MFSL, Coromandel, Glenmark and IDFC First Bank depreciated 2-6 per cent.
In the smallcap basket, BLS International, Ola Electric, Whirlpool, KPIL soared 2-10 per cent, while Anant Raj, Delhivery and IGIL dropped 2-3 per cent.
