Equity benchmark indices continued to trade in negative territory weighed down by a lack of positive triggers and global headwinds. The weak sentiment echoed after the latest US jobs data failed to provide clarity on the US Fed rate cut.
Following an intraday fall of 414 points, Sensex traded with 135.98 points or 0.16 per cent loss at 85,496.70 at 12.50 pm, and Nifty 50 dropped by 29.95 points or 0.11 per cent to 26,162.20. Nifty fell by 118 points in today’s trading session. Both the benchmarks scaled a 52-week high in the previous trading session.
Nifty midcap and smallcap indices declined 0.7 per cent. On the sectoral front, all indices except auto and FMCG, traded in the negative range. Realty and metals led the losses, each down by over 1 per cent.

Market breadth remained weak, reflecting the overall negative tone in equities. Out of 3,034 stocks traded on the National Stock Exchange at the time of writing, only 858 advanced while 2,088 declined, and 88 remained unchanged. Just 38 stocks touched their 52-week highs, whereas a significantly higher 150 fell to new 52-week lows.
Meanwhile, 52 stocks hit the upper circuit and 51 slipped into the lower circuit, further highlighting the volatility and bearish bias across the broader market.
